Meet our newest franchisee, Hema Patel, from Bakersfield, California.

After over 25 years in retail management, Hema Patel is ready to finally use her experience to run her own business with her husband and son by her side.

“I always wanted to own my own business but the timing was never right.”

One day, her son, who shares his mother’s entrepreneurial spirit, jokingly mentioned how awesome it would be to own a smoothie place. And lightbulb! That comment was just the kick Hema needed to get things rolling. Her husband quickly did some research and discovered Maui Wowi. They delved into as much information as they could get their hands on and came across a lot of great online reviews. Their initial search prompted them to reach out and make the next step.

“We contacted Maui Wowi and started talking to everyone there and I loved what I heard,” said Hema.

The more she learned about the company, the more she related to its emphasis on creating a family environment and supporting each other like an ‘ohana. “I want to be a part of one big family where you look out for each other,” said Hema.

Now, as a Maui Wowi franchisee, Hema is a member of the Maui Wowi ‘ohana, a system of support built on the experience of over 200 franchisees. With the proper training and guidance, she is ready to take her future into her own hands.

Hema’s operational background and great networking skills will assist her in building the Maui Wowi brand and growing the business. In time, her husband and son will both become involved, making it a true family business. She plans to work in the business full-time as they open a retail location in Bakersfield and build the brand throughout their community. Once her son is finished with school, he plans to manage the event side of the business.

Her son’s seemingly innocent comment has turned Hema’s dream into a reality. “I once thought to myself, why work for someone else when you can work for yourself?” she said. “I’ve been in retail for 25 years. I think it’s time I run my own business now.”
