The three day weekend is almost here and we’re counting down the hours left in the work week! To keep your eye on the prize, we have rounded up five ways to spend your Memorial Day weekend this year so you can be prepared as soon as it’s quittin’ time!
Although it is common to say we “celebrate” Memorial Day, it is actually a day of remembrance and observance. However you decide to spend your weekend, make sure you take some time to remember what Memorial Day is all about. To learn more, click HERE.
Have a cookout: Memorial Day is the perfect occasion to get together with friends and family for a day in the sun. Make it patriotic with red, white, and blue decorations or make a fun fruit dessert using strawberries, blueberries, and whipped cream!
Have a moment of silence: In the midst of enjoying summertime celebrations and get togethers, it’s important to take a moment to honor the individuals who have passed away while serving our country. The national moment of remembrance occurs every Memorial Day at 3 p.m. local time.
Run a marathon: Or even a 5k to show your endurance and strength on Memorial Day. Many cities across the country host running events over Memorial Day weekend and it’s a great way to push your limits and strive for your personal best. Check out this site to find local races.
Fly the American flag: Since this is a day of mourning and an observance of all the heroes who have fallen in the fight for freedom, the flag should be flown at half-staff. You can also wear an American flag pin or dress in patriotic clothing and accessories to show your appreciation.
Attend a parade or street festival: A parade is a great way to show our respect and pay tribute. Many towns and cities also have some great events and festivals that include everything from art to music to beer. There is something for everyone. You might even spot a Maui Wowi if you’re lucky!
